Vlissingen

The beaches of the Netherlands are visited by many tourists and day-trippers each summer. But Vlissingen also has plenty to offer in the early and late seasons. Even when temperatures are not hot enough for sunbathing, the beaches of Zeeland are great for walking. In fact, many people feel rejuvenated after a long walk along the beach!

Vlissingen boasts a rich history that comes to life in many tourist attractions such as its museums. Who hasn’t heard of Vlissingen’s most famous son, Michiel de Ruyter? He is honoured by a statue at the point of the esplanade, where he stands looking over the sea. The Sint-Jacobus de Meerderekerk, the oldest and main church of Vlissingen, and the 17th-century mill the Oranjemolen are also well worth a visit.
